SAWS issues warning of thunderstorms in Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo

Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) is on high alert as rain falls across the city on Monday.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a warning of severe thunderstorms for most parts of Gauteng, with a chance of localised flooding and damaging winds.
Johannesburg (EMS) spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi is urging road uses to be cautious in traffic.
“It’s raining in most parts of the city of Johannesburg, most roads are wet and slippery our motorists are urged to exercise caution while driving, extend a safe following distance and try and avoid crossing flooded roads,” he said.
South African Weather Service (SAWS) further offered a provincial outlook, citing a Yellow Level 2 warning.
“Severe thunderstorms are expected over Gauteng, extreme north-western parts of Mpumalanga, the western and central parts of Limpopo, where it will persist over Limpopo into tomorrow morning as a result of tropical moisture.
“Impacts include heavy downpours leading to localised flooding of low-lying bridges and areas and settlements large amounts of small hail and excessive lighting,” said SAWS.
