JOHANNESBURG - The City of Johannesburg said it remains committed to refurbishing the busy Vincent Tshabalala Road in Alexandra.
The road currently suffers from potholes, water leaks, sewage issues, and informal settlements encroaching on certain sections.
However, the city said removing these settlements won’t be easy, as it must first secure temporary housing for the affected residents.
City of Johannesburg MMC for Development Planning Eunice Mgcina said restoring Alexandra required a lot of effort.
"Housing must come and assist us in relocating these people because the law protects our residents as well. So, we need to observe the law in terms of moving them to a safe place after removing them."
