JOHANNESBURG - The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has welcomed a ruling by the Alexandra Magistrates Court denying murder accused businessman Katiso Kt Molefe bail.

Molefe made a brief appearance in the court on Wednesday morning.

He’s facing murder charges for allegedly orchestrating the hit on popular musicians Oupa Sefoka and Hector Buthelezi, popularly known as DJ Sumbody and DJ Vintos, respectively.

On Wednesday, Magistrate Renier Boshoff ruled that Molefe failed to prove exceptional circumstances that would warrant his release on bail.

While opposing his release on bail, prosecutors had argued that he could be linked with the alleged hitmen who are his co–accused through cellphone communication.

As a result, Magistrate Boshoff said the evidential link between Molefe and his co-accused has increased, denying him bail.

The NPA’s Phindi Mjonondwane said, "It is one that affirms the rule of law and seeks to give hope to society out there that as the criminal justice system, we will stop at nothing to promote the safety of the entire members of South Africa."

Molefe will remain behind bars and is expected to make his next court appearance next month.
