Masemola says he's not been called to testify before inquiry into alleged police graft

JOHANNESBURG- National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola said he has not yet been approached to testify before the judicial inquiry into alleged corruption within the criminal justice system.
Masemola, who is locked in a court battle with his deputy, Shadrack Sibiya, over his decision to place him on leave, is expected to be called before the commission.
President Cyril Ramaphosa established the inquiry after KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi accused Sibiya of diverting political killings dockets to Gauteng, where they were allegedly neutralised.

A defiant Masemola dismissed suggestions that he acted improperly in directing Sibiya to step aside, repeating his position in court papers.
Speaking on the sidelines of a R420 million drug destruction in Gauteng, he confirmed he has not been contacted to testify when the commission begins on 1 September 2025.
“We will wait for the call. When we get the call, we will go. We won’t be hesitant to go, so that is basically where we are.”
Asked about his relationship with Mkhwanazi, Masemola said they have spoken and he is ready to give evidence if required.
