The Public Servants’ Association (PSA) in the Eastern Cape has condemned an attack on law enforcement officers in Ngangelizwe in the OR Tambo district.

One officer was killed and another is in a critical condition after what is believed to have been a coordinated ambush in broad daylight.

In a statement, the PSA says the incident reflects growing lawlessness and a wider pattern of attacks on police officers across South Africa.

The association says police killings remain a serious concern, with dozens of officers murdered in recent years, and is calling for urgent intervention to protect law enforcement members.

The union has called for a dedicated provincial task team to investigate the attack and says perpetrators must be arrested within seven days.

It has also extended condolences to the family of the deceased officer and wished the injured officer a full recovery, adding that such attacks are not only a threat to law enforcement but also undermine public safety in already vulnerable communities.
