JOHANNESBURG - Giant food manufacturer Tiger Brands is urging consumers to return their Benny beef- and chicken-flavoured stock cubes to their nearest retailers and receive refunds.
This comes after the company recalled the products on Thursday, citing inaccurate labelling on packaging.
The decision to recall the products comes after the company consulted the National Consumer Commission about the cubes that have been on shelves since 2023.
They include the 12, 24 and 48 cube packs with a best before date of 31 July 2027 or any date prior.
The latest product issue comes as Tiger Brands is already locked in a legal battle over the 2017 listeriosis outbreak that claimed at least 200 lives.
Tiger Brands said it's working with retail and wholesale customers to remove all incorrectly labelled Benny flavoured stock cube products from store shelves.
However, the company has assured that this recall does not include any other products marketed and sold under the Benny brand.
The company remains under public and legal scrutiny nearly seven years after the deadly listeriosis outbreak.
The benny flavoured stock cubes were recently introduced to the Tiger Brands’ product line.
The food manufacturer said it will make the stock cubes available again once the labelling information has been rectified.
