JOHANNESBURG - Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo will on Friday morning make submissions before the Pretoria Regional Court in a bid for him to return to work.
Khumalo was arrested alongside six other senior Crime Intelligence officials in July by members of the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC).
The accused face charges of corruption and fraud related to the appointment of 30-year-old Dineo Mokwele to an executive position within Crime Intelligence in April 2024, despite her having no policing capabilities, knowledge, or skills.
Khumalo and three of his six co-accused, implicated in a fraud and corruption scandal, will make submissions to the Pretoria Regional Court to have their bail conditions amended.
Khumalo and five senior Crime Intelligence members stand accused of colluding in appointing Mokwele last year as a brigadier for a highly specialised division within Crime Intelligence responsible for national covert operations, despite her not having any previous policing skills or qualifications.
Khumalo, Mokwele, as well as Precious Madondo, head of the analysis centre at Crime Intelligence and Josias Lekalakala, Gauteng Crime Intelligence head, want their bail conditions amended so that they can return to work.
However, the State intends to strongly oppose this request, as many of the witnesses set to testify in the case are Crime Intelligence employees.
The State claims the matter is ready to proceed to trial. A date is to be determined when they appear in court again in September.
