CAPE TOWN - Cape Town Tourism said that the sector has supported over 100,000 jobs in the city over the last year.
It has noted that while international arrivals in 2024 were below pre-pandemic numbers, the growth trajectory remains positive.
The latest Economic Value of Tourism report revealed that one job is sustained for every 10 tourists who visit.
The City of Cape Town’s Economic Growth Department will launch a new tourism development framework in September, which will focus on attracting more arrivals and creating more jobs for Capetonians.
Cape Town Tourism CEO Enver Duminy said destination marketing organisations play a huge role in promoting the city.
“For us, tourism is not just about holidays, it's about livelihoods. Our purpose is to improve the lives of all Capetonians through tourism. Right now, more than 106,000 jobs depend on it - that’s nearly 7% of all employment in Cape Town.”
