CAPE TOWN - Evidence presented in the Western Cape High Court shows alleged underworld figures Jerome "Donkie" Booysen and the deceased, Mark Lifman and Andre Naudewere being monitored by the Crime Intelligence division since 2015.
Booysen and 11 others are on trial for the murder of "steroid king" Brian Wainstein.
Wainstein was shot dead in his Constantia home in 2017
Lifman and Naude, along with three other accused in the matter, have been killed since the trial started early last year.
A Crime intelligence colonel is testifying on Monday about cellphone recordings extracted from the phones of alleged underworld figures: Booysen, Naude and Mark Lifman.
The state presented the court with a CD containing recordings of the intercepted calls last week.
However, when the State attempted to play the recordings in court, the file containing the phone calls was found to be corrupted.
Booysen's lawyer, Advocate Amanda Nel, questioned how the State was able to play the recordings in court today.
"This witness has laid a proper basis regarding what happened to his laptop, so that it is now able to do something which it could not... And if the state wants to lead this witness as he was doing... He should do so and explain to the court why he is doing it and not the witness."
One of the files saved on the CD shows that crime intelligence officers were monitoring Booysen, Naude and Lifman's calls since 2015.
