Meet the 2025 Boerewors Champion, car salesman Roberto-Rui Agrela!

The Paarl car salesman claimed the honours at this year’s Shoprite and Checkers Championship Boerewors finale.

The 33-year-old emerged victorious with tongs in hand as the country’s number one boerewors maker outdoing over 2,350 hopefuls. 

Along with coveted bragging rights, he drove away with a brand-new Toyota Fortuner and a R20,000 cash prize.

From 5 September, Argrela’s winning boerewors recipe will hit Shoprite and Checkers shelves nationwide.

Surprisingly, this is his first time taking on boerewors making.

“I guess the first time was the charm... [and] on the day when I actually made the wors for competition was the first time making this specific batch.”

The boerewors champion says he won’t be quitting his day job just yet. 

“I still love selling vehicles and working with my customers and clients… but wors making will be another add-on.”
