JOHANNESBURG - Five suspects arrested in connection with a Facebook scam are expected to appear in the Midrand Magistrate's Court on Wednesday morning. 
 
They were caught earlier this week while trying to swindle money from a person who responded to a Facebook Marketplace car sale.
 
The would-be buyer arrived with police as a precaution at the location where the transaction was expected to take place.
 
The group opened fire when they noticed the officers, resulting in a shootout.
 
The men aged between 27 and 39 were wounded during the shootout with police and they tried to flee in two cars.
 
A high-speed chase ensued and one of the cars overturned and five of the suspects were arrested and two firearms were found in their possession. 
 
The group is facing charges of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms, ammunition and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.
 
Police continue to search for two other suspects who managed to escape during the shootout.
