DURBAN - The African National Congress (ANC)’s task team in KwaZulu-Natal has concluded that new regional and provincial leaders will be elected before the end of 2025.

The task team briefed the media in Durban on Wednesday following the outcomes of its meeting on Monday.

Early in 2025, the ANC national executive committee (NEC) disbanded the KZN provincial leadership due to poor performance in the 2024 general polls.

The ANC lost its majority and only retained 17% of the votes in the general polls in 2024.

In June, all 11 regions in the province were disbanded and reconfigured into regional task teams.

It's been three months since interim structures were appointed to lead and run all ANC regions in the province.

However, the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal believes that in the next two months, the regions should be ready to elect new leaders, and this is set to be followed by a provincial conference.

Provincial coordinator Mike Mabuyakhulu said the task team had adopted a roadmap for conferences.

"The regional conferences are now projected to be held on the weekends from 9-23 November 2025, while the provincial conference is earmarked to be at the end of November 2025."

He said the party’s attention in the province would now focus on ensuring these processes run successfully.
