CAPE TOWN - The Cape Organisation for the Democratic Taxi Association (CODETA) said it’s unclear when they will return to the negotiating table to try and de-escalate the tensions between them and the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA).

Fresh violence linked to a feud between the two rival taxi associations has claimed the lives of five people this past week.

Disagreements over a route from Khayelitsha and Mfuleni to Somerset West are believed to be behind the deadly shootings.

Peace talks between the two parties reached a deadlock earlier this week.

CODETA spokesperson Makhosandile Tumana said a date for fresh talks has not been finalised yet.

"According to our understanding, both parties, after the meeting was adjourned, will go to their constituencies, and after that, the leadership will convene another meeting. So, we are still waiting for the chairpersons of these two regions."
