JOHANNESBURG - Social advocacy group Not in My Name International is calling for the immediate arrest of a teacher from Prinshof School for the Visually Impaired, who is alleged to have sexually assaulted a learner.
According to the organisation, the incident came to light after the victim, a 14-year-old girl, told her parent that she no longer felt safe at school due to the male teacher’s inappropriate behaviour.
The group has accused the school’s management of failing to protect the learner and of not ensuring a safe environment for students.
Spokesperson Themba Masango said a criminal case has been opened and has urged the school's principal and management to cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
“We call on the SAPS and the NPA to act with speed and diligence to ensure that the alleged perpetrator is arrested and faces the full might of the law and also the dismissal of the perpetrator.
“We demand that the school governing body and the Department of Basic Education immediately suspend and subsequently terminate the employment of the accused teacher.”
