JOHANNESBURG - Two police officers are among 27 people arrested for drunk driving in Kwazulu-Natal.
Saturday’s arrests were made as part of a multi-disciplinary traffic offences crackdown led by the provincial transport department.
One of the officers, a male from the Port Edward police station, was found to be six times over the legal alcohol limit.
In a separate incident, a female officer from the Port Shepstone precinct was also detained after recording an alcohol level four times over the limit.
Transport spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya said a minibus taxi driver was also arrested for drunk driving and overloading.
“In particular, the MEC has mandated the department to ensure that a comprehensive presentation is made before the Justice, Crime Prevention and Security Cluster. This cluster has the responsibility to ensure that relevant department work together to ensure law enforcement, fight crime and ensure national security.”
