City of Joburg commits to conducting inspections at every construction site

The City of Johannesburg has committed to conducting inspections at every construction site in the metro.
This, after a building collapse that killed nine people.
Officials said developers who are non-compliant will be blacklisted and charged accordingly.
On Tuesday, the Minister of Public Works, Dean Macpherson, visited the site and admitted the situation signals the need for crisis management.

In a statement, City Manager Floyd Brink said they will be starting with audits of all developments that are currently under construction.
He said that all documents and will be checked and verified in order to safeguard the public from further disaster.
On Tuesday, Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero admitted that they’ve had challenges with this process.
“Yes, we do not have enough resources, as you know, but the resources that we have, have to be used optimally to make sure they perform all their work.”
Brink added that bylaws will be enforced, with no exceptions.
