The South African national women’s rugby team made history over the weekend after securing their place in the knockouts for the Women’s Rugby World Cup.
Their nail-biting 29-24 victory over Italy saw them top Group D for a place in their first quarterfinal ever.

This was also the first time South Africa had beaten Italy.
“We went into that game extremely positive. We played them twice in the past… this time around, I feel that we were way better prepared.”

Next up is another major clash for the Boks against a strong French side in the final pool game on 7 September 2025.
The winner will top Group D and potentially have an easier path to the next round.
