It's unclear if murder of Joburg lawyer linked to any ongoing legal cases: Kubayi

JOHANNESBURG - Minister of Justice Mmamoloko Kubayi said it remains unclear whether the murder of Johannesburg attorney Bouwer van Niekerk is linked to any of his ongoing legal cases.

Van Niekerk, who specialised in insolvency matters, was shot and killed by two unknown assailants in his office near Sandton last week.

It has since emerged that he had been working on an insolvency case involving an alleged pyramid scheme, the NTC Global Trade Fund.

In a statement, the minister called for anyone with information to come forward and assist police.

“The minister appreciates that a full investigation is underway and wishes to reiterate that the investigation must speedily deal with the perpetrators of this crime and bring them to book in order to restore faith in our laws and law enforcement officers.”
