DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) law enforcement and traffic officers will be intensifying safety operations across the province as thousands of people are expected to be attending the annual uMkhosi woMhlanga reed dance today.
The ceremony, which is a centuries-old tradition, is marked with scores of young women, offering their reeds to Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini at the Emashobeni Royal Palace.
KZN Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli has urged all road users to adhere to the rules of the road.
He added that after the latest fatal scholar transport incident, which claimed the lives of five children this week, more needs to be done to ensure people’s safety.
“In a way, I'm worried about the accidents in general in KwaZulu-Natal, but we are engaging on the issue of police visibility and having much more roadblocks by both metro stops and our traffic laws enforcers.”
