'She's a liar!' - Businessman Serge Cabonge breaks silence on actress Tebogo Thobejane shooting allegations

702's Clement Manyathela chats to the businessman Serge Cabonge - a close friend of both Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala and actress Tebogo Thobejane.

"She's a liar."

Cabonge has denied any involvement in the attempted murder of actress Tebogo Thobejane, who was shot shortly after meeting him for dinner.

He insists that he had no role in the shooting and claims he left the restaurant an hour before the attack.

Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, an alleged underworld figure, is currently in jail after being accused of ordering a hit on his ex-girlfriend, Thobejane, in December 2023.

In her police affidavit, Thobejane alleges that Cabonge shared her location and claims he had knowledge of a past murder linked to Matlala.

"I never shared any location with anybody because if I did share [her] location, the police have power, especially the team who are investigating the matter... they have the power to find out. Even if I lie, I don't tell the truth, they have the power to find out....I never shared any location. Tebogo, she's just lying to everybody... She's trying to involve me in the things that I don't know, that I was not even part of that..."

"I'm not only the person that Tebogo is accusing. She's accusing a lot of people. I have all the evidence of everyone that she's fighting...She's fighting high-profile [people]."

Cabonge states that he called the police and took Thobejane to the hospital. 

He adds that she later asked him to go live on Instagram to share what had occurred.

"She forced me to share a live on my Instagram about what happened to her. And then I was refusing... I said, since the bullet did not get you, if I go live, they might see where we are, they might come here. She said to me, no, you don't need to worry since you called the police here."

He accuses Thobejane of lying out of personal bitterness and claims she attempted to control who he spoke to, including Matlala. 

Cabonge says he will pursue legal action if she continues making public accusations.

"If she really feels I was the person, let her give the police evidence."
