Annual consumer price inflation (CPI) eased to 3.3% percent in August from 35% in July.
This is the second-highest inflation rate seen this year, after it peaked last month from cool rates at the start of the year.
Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) released the latest inflation print on Wednesday.
It said softer food and fuel inflation took some of the heat off the headline rate.
The chief director for price statistics at Stats SA, Patrick Kelly, explained.
"We also saw a dip in monthly inflation. The consumer price index fell, 0.1% between July and August."
