The DA announces Helen Zille as the 2026 Johannesburg Mayoral Candidate.
JOHANNESBURG - Democratic Alliance (DA) mayoral candidate Helen Zille said that the poor state of the city of Johannesburg is a result of failed governance.
She promised to return the city of gold to its former glory if she is elected as mayor in the upcoming Local Government Elections.
On Saturday the party officially announced Zille as its mayoral candidate at the Eyethu Shopping Centre in Soweto.
During the event, the DA played a video showing Zille going back to her old family home and her old apartment in the Johannesburg CBD.
Zille said that the city has deteriorated since she last lived in it.
"It was a place to be, now, just over 30-years later, many of its own residents, see it as a place to flee. Joburg is South Africa’s most devastating example of what bad government can do to great people.”
So far, Zille will be battling the mayoral chain against the Patriotic Alliance's Kenny Kunene, as the DA and PA are the two major parties to announce their mayoral candidates for Johannesburg.
