Fight to contain the devastating blaze in Mossel Bay continues

Firefighters are still battling a devastating fire in Mossel Bay that has destroyed at least 10 homes overnight.

The blaze has spread to Aalwyndal and its surrounds, where firefighters are attending to flare-ups.

The fire started in a farming area near Vakansieplaas, where more than 10 homes were reportedly gutted by the fire.

The Mossel Bay Municipality said windy conditions are making it difficult for firefighters to control the fire in Aalwynda.l

On Tuesday, a minor girl was injured as a result of the fire in Vakansieplaas, where residents were evacuated before the fire gutted homes, damaging vehicles and other infrastructure.

Three firefighters were injured while battling the blaze, while another was admitted to hospital for smoke inhalation.

Aerial resources have since been deployed, and at present, no structures are in danger of being damaged by the fire.

The N2 - which was closed between Langeberg and Dana Bay overnight - has since been reopened.
