Motorists leaving the Cape Town CBD on Sunday won't be able to use the elevated freeway.
The road between Walter Sisulu and the N1/N2 split will be closed to traffic.
The City of Cape Town said its teams will carry out maintenance on the electronic message boards used to update motorists on traffic alerts.
MMC for Urban Mobility Rob Quintas said motorists will have to use alternative routes to leave the city.
"On Sunday, the 21st of Septembe,r the outbound elevated freeway between Walter Sisulu and the N1/N2 split will be closed from 04:00 until midday for essential maintenance on the electronic message boards. Part of Heerengracht Street and FW de Klerk Boulevard will also be affected.”
