The Democratic Alliance (DA) is calling for heads to roll following yet another Pollsmoor prison escape scandal.

Thembalethu Daba walked out of the Pollsmoor Remand Detention Facility two weeks ago, after allegedly impersonating another inmate.

However, Correctional Services Minister Pieter Groenewald has confirmed that the inmate has since been re-arrested

This is not the first incident. In April, sentenced inmate Xolani Du Preez was re-arrested in Table View after vanishing for 9 months while attending court.

The DA's Member of Parliament, Janho Engelbrecht, said the alleged prison escape would not have been possible without help from the inside.

"If true, this was not a mistake, it was a brazen act requiring someone to process, hand over, and present the inmate in court under a false name. This points to deliberate collusion by correctional services officials."

He adds that those found responsible must face the full force of the law.

"We demand a full investigation, and anyone found guilty of this deliberate misconduct must be criminally prosecuted for aiding an escape, and there must be strict accountability to ensure this blatant disregard for protocol never happens again."
