As grade 12 learners prepare for the end of their school career, the City of Cape Town is reminding the youth to be mindful of the law.
In the last few weeks before the final exams, many are partaking in celebrations at party hubs and beaches.
MMC for Safety and Security JP Smith is urging young people to be responsible.
He said there will be increase patrols and vehicle checkpoints around beaches and in the CBD over this period.
"The public is reminded that the possession and consumption of alcohol in public spaces and on beaches is prohibited in terms of the city's by-laws. Anyone transgressing the by-laws will be fined R500 and have their alcohol confiscated."
