KLEINMOND - Speaker of the United Kingdom’s House of Commons, Lindsay Hoyle, has made an impassioned plea for peace to be restored in the Middle East.
Hoyle is in South Africa to attend the G20 meeting of parliamentary speakers, who are discussing how to harness parliamentary diplomacy to enhance global solidarity.
He told the gathering that he was in awe of South Africa’s most revered statesman, Nelson Mandela, and that his life should inspire the world to return to a democratic order.

Sir Lindsay Hoyle has appealed to G20 nations to ensure the longevity of democracy, and a free, peaceful world.
He said it was unfathomable that a sovereign nation like Ukraine was invaded by Russia, and that troops from North Korea were supporting the war.
"What kind of world are we living in? We went through two world wars to stop this. Let us not walk into a third world war."
Hoyle called on G20 governments to do more to end conflict around the world, even those that don’t attract international attention.
"We must bring peace to the Middle East. We have to give hope to the people of Gaza. We have to make sure the hostages are released as well. We have to not forget about Sudan, where hundreds and millions of people have been displaced."
Hoyle said world nations must be respectful of one another and their sovereign boundaries.
