The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) has experienced a 96% rise in passengers in a single year.
In the financial year ending in 2025, they recorded 77 million passenger journeys compared to 39 million the year prior.
Most of this growth originated from Gauteng and the Western Cape.
Raymond Maseko, PRASA’s Western Cape Regional Manager, said Prasa in the Western Cape is transporting around 200,000 passengers each day.
“We are growing from strength to strength,” said Maseko.
The agency’s yearly report also revealed that 35 of its 40 service lines are now operational.
However, Prasa still transports 85% fewer passengers than it did ten years ago.
