Patriotic Alliance (PA) deputy leader Kenny Kunene said that he is here to stay following his reinstatement as MMC for Transport in Johannesburg.

Kunene returned to government earlier this week, following his resignation from the city council in July.

He had stepped down from politics after being found at the home of suspected underworld figure Katiso "KT" Molefe during a police raid.

Molefe is currently in custody for allegedly orchestrating the murder of Oupa Sefoka, also known as DJ Sumbody.

Kunene spoke to journalists about his reinstatement on the sidelines of a service delivery programme in Soweto.

Kunene resigned from the Johannesburg city council in July; no one was appointed to replace him as MMC for transport.

This is because the African National Congress (ANC) wanted to fill the position with someone from a different party, while the PA insisted on appointing one of its own councillors to the position.

Even after Kunene’s recent return to the council, there was some resistance to reappointing him.

Kunene is now the PA’s Johannesburg mayoral candidate for next year’s local government elections.
