The University of Cape Town is attempting to help students and staff manage the mental health strain that comes with tertiary education.

They have launched a Centre for Wellbeing and Flourishing to offer mental health support.

The strategic founding lead of the project, Sean Abrahams, says this is not just about helping people cope, but rather creating spaces to succeed and flourish.

This aims to go beyond the typical offerings of the Student Health Services and places emphasis on belonging, dignity, meaning and achievement, and also focuses more on workshops and group sessions

“It takes more of a practical and research-based approach, directly towards what does it mean to flourish, and what does wellbeing mean in our context,” says Abrahams.
