Evidence leaders from the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry will make an application to have their next witness testify in camera, in a closed session where the media and members of the public will not be allowed.
The commission will resume on Monday, following a week’s break.
Last week, Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo testified for three days before falling ill.
While Khumalo is still required to provide evidence for another two days, the Madlanga Commission’s spokesperson, Jeremy Michaels, confirms he is not the next witness to testify.
If the commission grants the application, the hearings will proceed in camera until further notice. It should be clarified that Lieutenant-General Dumisani Khumalo, the head of SAPS [South African Police Service] Crime Intelligence, will not testify during this period. The commission remains committed to the principles of transparency and accountability.”
