The transport department in KwaZulu-Natal has committed to intensifying its road safety operations to curb lawlessness across the province.

To assist with this task, 177 new traffic officers have been deployed to strengthen patrols.

The department says most accidents happen on major routes like the N3 and N2.

With October marking Transport Month, MEC Siboniso Duma is warning motorists that disorder on the roads will not be tolerated…

“And already we’ve started ensuring that our visibility every day we are on the ground.” Duma said.

Duma has also warned traffic officers against corruption and bribery.

“We’ve just given them one thing; don’t take any incentives. Whoever is found guilty just ensure that they are arrested. Whoever drives beyond 140 km per hour, that person must be arrested,” he added.
