This World Food Day, the Western Cape Department of Agriculture is committed to bringing food security to every household in need.
This year's theme “Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future” focuses on working together to help bridge the divide between food security and insecurity.
The department said that more than 203 household agricultural food production initiatives had been implemented in various communities.
They include Moorreesburg, Kalbaskraal, Riverlands, Abbotsdale, Koringberg, and Chatsworth.
Agriculture MEC Ivan Meyer: "We know there is a need for nutritional food worldwide. For this reason, the Western Cape government partnered with the Swartland Municipality to celebrate World Food Day."
Meyer added that the department had also launched 23 household chicken production projects to ensure food security.
"Various community organisations were targeted to distribute food to communities who need it the most. The Western Cape government is committed to promote food security in the Western Cape."
