The South African Weather Service has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms in parts of the North West, Gauteng, and the Free State.
Forecasters said Sunday afternoon’s heavy downpours could lead to localised flooding in low-lying areas.
Weather forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela is urging motorists to be extra cautious on the roads.
"These storms are expected to result in heavy downpours that lead to localized flooding, a possibility of damaging winds, as well as the possibility of hail and excessive lightning stretching to the southern parts of Limpopo into the evening," said Thobela.
