The South African Revenue Service (SARS) said nearly 700,000 individuals have yet to submit their income tax returns.
So far, close to 8 million taxpayers have filed, including 6 million who were auto-assessed.
SARS is urging the public to file before Monday's deadline.
Spokesperson Siphithi Sibeko said individuals must meet their legal obligations or face penalties.
"Failure to do so will reluctantly force us to have to impose penalties because people have been given ample opportunity to meet their legal obligations," said Sibeko.
