The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment has confirmed the name of the Kruger National Park hasn’t changed.
The department issued a statement after a query from AfriForum about the erroneous listing of the park as Skukuza National Park on Google Maps.
It said the name of the park is enshrined in law, and any proposed name changes must follow the existing legislative process.
The department’s Thobile Zulu-Molobi has cautioned members of the public against misinformation.
"Under Section 20 of the National Environmental Management Protected Areas Act 57 of 2003, no notice has been published in the government gazette to alter the name and no such change has been approved by the minister, Dr Dion George."
