GDE condemns incidents of violence reported at schools this week

The Gauteng education department has condemned the violent incidents reported at schools across the province.
It said that learning centers should be safe spaces
There have been at least five incidents reported this week alone.
The department said it has sent psychosocial support units to the schools where violent incidents have occurred, to provide trauma counselling to those affected.
On Thursday, a grade nine Boksburg High School pupil was allegedly stabbed by a group of school boys, who were later arrested.
In another incident, video footage shows a group of female pupils physically assaulting a fellow learner at Oosrand School of Specialisation.
And in a video making the rounds on social media, a female pupil is seen being physically assaulted and verbally abused.
Provincial education spokesperson, Steve Mabona: "We have also witnessed the sad incident that occurred in one of our schools in Soshanguve, and as such, we have suspended two Basic Education Employment Initiative personnel as a result of this incident, where a grade five boy learner from the Makato Primary School has been injured on Wednesday, the 22nd of October 2025. Information at our disposal indicate that this learner was asked or requested rather to assist this implicated personnel and as a result the learner got injured in the school library."
Mabona added that there was an ongoing investigation into the incident.
