Suspended Northern Cape Cricket CEO Thapelo January alleges that Cricket South Africa (CSA) got him suspended in retaliation for his assistance with the Special Investigating Unit (SIU).
Speaking on Marawa Sports Worldwide, he says he was approached by the SIU to provide critical information related to alleged money-laundering and fraud within CSA and the NCC before his tenure.
“I disclosed sensitive and critical information to the SIU, which implicates the president of Cricket South Africa in serious allegations of money laundering and fraud.”
“When I spoke to the agent of the SIU, it was just north of R13 million,” he says.
He adds, “In retaliation, the President of Cricket South Africa has decided to use the whole myth of CSA to get me dismissed as the CEO of Northern Cape Cricket.”
January says he was told the suspension was on the grounds of the outcomes of an internal audit report.
He claims he challenged the report, and it was never signed, so he could not have been suspended if the report was never concluded.
“I could see that when the report came, it was more of an attack or trying to get me out of the office because I decided to help the SIU in this investigation.”
