The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry has heard how firearm evidence in the murder case of engineer Armand Swart was tampered with – allegedly to protect criminal syndicates.
In the past two days, three ballistic analysts assigned to the Political Killings Task Team testified before the commission.

They indicated that evidence points to a group of hitmen believed to be behind multiple high-profile assassinations.
The experts further revealed that firearms connected to the murder of Oupa Sefoka, popularly known as DJ Sumbody, have also been linked to 29 other criminal cases.
DJ Sumbody, DJ Vintos, businessman Don Tindleni, and Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart were all killed using the same AK-47 automatic rifle.
These high-profile murders were connected by the KwaZulu-Natal Political Killings Task Team, which conducted a comparative analysis of the cartridges recovered from each crime scene.
Senior forensic analyst at the South African Police Service, Captain Solomon Modisane, said some cartridges could not be linked to other cases because they were tampered with.
"They were damaged and I couldn't make any link to see if they were fired from this specific AK-47."
The Madlanga Commission will now turn its focus to the arrest of Katiso “KT” Molefe, who is accused of orchestrating DJ Sumbody’s murder.
