South African Horrorfest Film Festival now showing at Labia Theatre until 9 November

The 21st Annual South African Horrorfest Film Festival returns to the Labia Theatre from 29 October to Sunday, 9 November, bringing back its signature blend of chills, cult classics, and cinematic curiosities.

As the country’s longest-running and only festival dedicated to horror, Horrorfest showcases a thrilling mix of new, classic, and rare films, along with premieres, short films, dark literature readings, live performances, Halloween fun, giveaways and more.

Event highlights:

• Horror pub quiz: Kick things off at The Armchair Theatre in Observatory on 29 October with the first-ever Horrorfest pub quiz.

• The Bloody Parchment Literary Chapter: Local authors share their spine-tingling stories at Exclusive Books, V&A Waterfront, on 1 November.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show's 50th Anniversary: Celebrate the cult classic with a special audience-participation screening of Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror on Halloween (31 October).

• Exclusive screenings: Most of this year’s films will be making their South African or African premieres at Horrorfest.

• Vintage cinema: Experience a 16mm projection of the 1931 classic Frankenstein, starring Boris Karloff.

• Live silent film soundtrack: don’t miss the live musical accompaniment to the German silent masterpiece Der Golem on Saturday, 8 November.

Festival organiser Paul Blom invites horror fans and curious newcomers alike to celebrate the darker side of cinema, from classic terrors and anime to dark literature and exclusive previews.
