The beloved household favourite cereal ProNutro is facing backlash after a change in its formula, leaving many consumers disappointed.
Consumer journalist Wendy Knowler explained that the change came earlier this year, when owners PepsiCo switched to new machinery that is more energy- and water-efficient.
The new formula is said to be more versatile and have less sugar.
“They are using this new process that you cannot get exactly the same product out of, which is what everyone is objecting to.”
While PepsiCo says it conducted extensive consumer research, Knowler believes it was insufficient.
“They should have brought consumers more into their confidence before they dropped this bombshell and put this new stuff on the shelf,” she said.
She noted that PepsiCo has acknowledged the issue and is working to further improve the recipe.
“While they can’t go back to their old machinery, what they are doing urgently is trying to tweak the recipe, trying to get the texture better because the lumps are a no-go for so many people, especially children.
“There is a little hope, but unfortunately for ProNutro devotees, the old one ain’t coming back,” she said.
