With end-of-year exams approaching, residents said they feel hopeless and trapped, as their children need to go to school while gang wars play out in the streets.
Elsies River CPF chairperson Marius Fourie said the endless supply of guns was a huge problem.
"It's gangsters; gangsters are holding the community hostage, and it is wrong - it's just wrong. I don't know where these firearms are coming from. There have been so many firearms that have been taken from the street, but it just doesn't stop.
"It is very, very sad how these firearms get on the road. I don't know where they come from, they're just too much. And the pools don't seem to dry up; it just keeps on coming and coming and coming."
