Iconic 24/7 MKEM Pharmacy changes name; founder says 'everything else remains the same'

Cape Town's famous 24-hour pharmacy, M-KEM, is about to get a new name: UniCare 24/7 Trusted Health. However, it promises that things will remain as they have always been, with the same staff, the same level of service, and the same operating hours.

The name change comes after the Clicks Group bought the business in 2023.

Founder Hylton Mallach, who has been at the helm for 60 years and will be turning 86 in November, said he was not going anywhere.

"It's just a name change. Everything else remains the same: same staff, same hours, same gold-standard service, same trusted care.

"I'm still there as before; nothing's changed."
