Robbery foiled: Courier employee shoots and kills suspect in Gugulethu

An 18-year-old robbery suspect was killed by a courier employee in Gugulethu after an attempted hijacking.

Police responded to the scene of the robbery in Lusaka on Thursday.

The courier driver informed officers that he was robbed of his cellphone while his vehicle was about to be hijacked.

However, the driver's assistant managed to fire gunshots, killing one robber and wounding a second.

Police spokesperson Frederick Van Wyk explained.

"A 9mm firearm without a serial number was found next to the body of the deceased. This firearm was handed in as an exhibit. The firearm, which was used by the driver’s assistant, was confiscated and handed in as an exhibit for further processing. Gugulethu police registered an inquest case for investigation."
