Emotional tributes have been shared by mourners gathered in Luckau village outside Groblersdal in Limpopo on Saturday to lay cousins Baleseng and Tshiamo Moramaga to rest.

The two young women were shot and killed in Mamelodi last week.

It's alleged they were attacked by a man one of them was romantically involved with following a night out.

The man accused of killing the pair, Tebogo Mnisi, appeared in court this week, where he abandoned his bail application.

Gender-based violence groups, including The Voice in Action Organisation, are also in attendance, calling for an end to femicide.

During the funeral service, a friend of the two women, Bontle Mahlangu, gave an emotional send-off.

“As I stand here, I’m overwhelmed by memories of my childhood friend Baleseng. We grew up together, played netball and soccer, and prayed together. We shared adventures and laughter and shared our deepest secrets. She was more than just a friend to me.” Mahlangu said.
