In a separate incident, the Makhaza anti-hijacking unit on Monday night recovered a homemade rifle and ammunition after receiving a tip-off about a robbery in progress in Khayelitsha.

The unit's members spotted the vehicle driving past them. When they turned their patrol vehicle around, the driver of the suspicious car sped off. The vehicle was later found abandoned in a nearby informal settlement.
