Brown Mogotsi claims assassination attempt, refuses to open case

Controversial businessman Brown Mogotsi has refused to open a police case after allegedly being shot at in what he claims was an attempted assassination.

Mogotsi told police the incident involved unknown assailants in a white bakkie in Vosloorus on Gauteng's East Rand on Monday night.

A red Chevrolet sedan, which Mogotsi is said to have been driving, has been taken to the Vosloorus Police Station and is currently being examined by ballistic experts.

The North West businessman is at the center of allegations of police corruption and is said to have acted as a middleman between senior police officials and underworld figures.

Police ballistic experts are analysing and collecting physical evidence from the red Chevrolet, which was supposedly shot at during Brown Mogotsi’s alleged attempted hit. They have applied black polish and tape over the vehicle, collecting fingerprints and determining the number of bullets that struck the car.

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said Mogotsi was asked to open a case, but refused.

"We are still waiting for Mr Brown Mogotsi to present himself before the Vosloorus Police Station as promised. We are told that he refused to open a case last night, citing fears for his life."

Police ended up opening an attempted murder case after Mokgotsi refused to do so himself.

The businessman assured the police he would present himself at the Vosloorus Police Station by 8am on Tuesday morning to submit a statement. However, over five hours later, Mogotsi is still a no-show.
