Independent Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) head Advocate Anthea Johnson will be the latest witness before Parliament’s ad hoc committee probing police corruption when she takes the stand on Thursday.
Johnson will appear before the committee following Acting Minister Firoz Cachalia’s appearance on Wednesday, which focused on policing matters, as well as Senzo Mchunu’s directive to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
Johnson is expected to be grilled by members following allegations of interference by IDAC officials and what members of Parliament (MPs) called “rogue elements” in the unit.
Johnson’s testimony follows weeks of testimony where IDAC officials have been implicated in interfering with police operations.
The committee also heard from KwaZulu-Natal top cop Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi how the IDAC was responsible for the arrest of Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo earlier in 2025.
Johnson is scheduled to appear before the committee to also provide information about the directorate's role in corruption cases.
Members of the committee had earlier raised concerns about IDAC members allegedly harassing ministers and police generals.
During his testimony, former Minister Bheki Cele acknowledged how “rogue” elements existed in IDAC.
Cachalia on Wednesday was questioned about the “rogue” elements but told MPs to rather ask Johnson about them.
Cachalia explained that the National Anti-Corruption Advisory Council (NACAC) engaged with the IDAC to discuss a review of the country’s corruption-fighting structures.
