The city’s Disaster Risk Management Centre (DRMC) has reminded the public to follow protocols to stay safe, as higher temperatures also increase the risks of fires.

A heat wave is expected to hit the City of Cape Town from Friday until Sunday.

The advisory was issued by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) on Thursday.

The city’s Disaster Risk Management Centre (DRMC) has reminded the public to follow protocols to stay safe, as higher temperatures also increase the risks of fires.

“Some tips to the public to reduce the risk of heat related impacts is to please stay out of direct sunlight where possible; wear light clothing and sunscreen; remain hydrated and to pay particular attention to the wellbeing of children, the elderly and other vulnerable groups, and of course pets,” advised the spokesperson for the DRMC, Sonica Lategan.
