Former Minister of Public Enterprises Malusi Gigaba said he is now back at home following a meeting with the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption (IDAC) on Friday morning.

The African National Congress (ANC)'s national executive committee (NEC) member met with IDAC to discuss the potential of fraud and corruption charges being filed against him.

Gigaba announced on social media earlier on Friday that he had been summoned to appear in court regarding alleged irregularities and Transnet contracts during his tenure between 2010 and 2014.

Gigaba left his home early in the morning, believing he was surrendering himself to authorities in connection with a corruption investigation.

He expected to appear in the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court after receiving a summons indicating he was being charged with corruption and believed he would be in court.

Gigaba, accompanied by his legal team, met with a group of IDAC officials at their Pretoria offices, only to discover that he was no longer being charged.

He announced on social media that he would not be attending court and has since returned home.

IDAC spokesperson Henry Mammothame has declined to provide further details.

“IDAC will not be commenting any further on the matter.”

Gigaba maintains that all his actions during his tenure as Public Enterprises Minister were conducted in accordance with the law and under police guidance.
